Head of Work Capability Assessment Commission in North Bulgaria was Arrested for Taking Bribes

The head of the Work Capability Assessment Commission in Lovech (central North Bulgaria). Donka Minkova, was arrested on 31st of January at a time she was receiving a bribe from an intermediary to help for issuing documents with false content. The intermediary was also detained. Some 13,000 BGN were found in him.

Bulgarian PM Calls an Extraordinary Meeting due to the Car Crashes Near Lovech

Because of the frequent traffic accidents on the Lovech - Yablanitsa road section, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov called a meeting to discuss measures and proposals for reducing them. It will take place today, the government's press service reported, according to bTV.

Bulgaria Police Find Illegal Oil Refinery Near Lovech

An illegal diesel refinery was discovered on Sunday near the town of Letnitsa in the region of Lovech, Northern Bulgaria, officials have announced.

Tanks full of diesel were found in and outside the facility which had a capacity of between 60 and 150 tons per month, Focus News Agency quotes Valentin Valkov, a Lovech district prosecutor, as saying.

Bulgaria's Krushuna Waterfalls to Remain Closed for Tourists Over Winter Season

The Krushuna waterfalls, located near the Bulgarian town of Letnitsa in the region of Lovech, will remain closed for tourists over the winter season.

The waterfalls were the site of a tragic incident in the beginning of November as a rockfall led to the death of two tourists - a Bulgarian woman and a British man.

Bulgarian Rescuers Continue Search for Tourists Buried by Landslide in Lovech Region

Bulgarian rescuers are continuing to search for two tourists, who were buried by a landslide, which occurred in the area of the Krushuna waterfalls near the town of Letnitsa in the region of Lovech on Friday.

At the time of the landslide there were three people in the area - two Bulgarian women and a British man.

Lovech Prosecution to Look Into Alonso The Jaguar Murder

Lovech Prosecution, along with Environment Ministry and the local municipality, started an investigation of the shooting of Alonso the jaguar, who escaped from his cage on Sunday. 

He was shot and killed by a local hunter near the fence of the zoo. Reports whether the hunting party first tried to tranquillize Alonso, before killing him, are contradictory.

The production of raspberries in northern Bulgaria is regaining momentum and is about to become a principle means of subsistence in the region.

The annual production of raspberries amounts to 8000 tonnes and 80% of it is exported to the Netherlands, Germany and the UK, according to Standard daily.

Torrential Rains Ravage Bulgaria's Burgas, Lovech, Yambol Regions

The torrential rains in Bulgaria's Black Sea Burgas region have flooded third class roads, buildings and agricultural areas, Friday.

The levels of the Osam river in the northern Bulgarian cities of Lovech and Troyan have doubled in the last day, however reservoirs in the region are still operating normally, Bulgarian National Radio informs.
