Romanians Rally Against Controversial Justice Bill
Thousands of people took to the streets across the country on Sunday in protest against the new justice bill proposed by the ruling Social Democrat Party.
As BIRN previously reported, magistrates, civil society, diplomats and the EU all warned the bill would curb the independence of the judicial system and could hurt the country's standing in Europe.

Over 90 million euro in damage after Transalpina upgrading (PM's Control Body)

Liberal Democrat, Liberal groups merge in the Senate, Chamber of Deputies
The opposition National Liberal Party (PDL) and Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) groups in the Senate have merged, an announcement to this effect having been made when the group leaders presented the group leadership for the new ordinary session of the legislature at the plenary sitting of the upper house on Monday, in line with the Rules.

Woman Takes Over Romania's Opposition Liberals
The National Liberal Party, PNL, Romania's biggest opposition party, elected Alina Gorghiu as its new leader on Thursday, replacing Klaus Iohannis, who resigned as head of the PNL to become President of Romania.
She won 48 votes in an internal meeting of party leaders. Her main opponent, a former Transport Minister, Ludovic Orban, got 28 votes.
