German Company Lufthansa has cancelled 890 flights on Wednesday, including some long - haul flights. As a result, Sofia Airport confirmed that several flights of the company to and from Sofia were also cancelled.
The reason for the strike which started last week is the long - term disagreement between the management and the pilots on the amount of the pilots's remeuneration.
Pilots at German flag carrier Lufthansa will resume their strike on Nov. 29-30, their union said, as talks over a dispute concerning wages ended without a resolution.
Pilots' union Cockpit said it was calling on members flying short-haul flights to stay away from work on Nov. 29, and those flying both short and long-haul destinations to stage a walkout on Nov. 30.
Lufthansa pilots are going on strike again for another 48 hours as of Tuesday.
The news was announced by their syndicate after they rejected the proposal of the management for a moderate increase of remuneration and a two-month bonus.
The Cockpit syndicate insist on a nearly 4% annual increase of wages which, however, has to be backdated 5 years.
The strike of Lufthansa pilots has become indefinite, announced the spokesperson of the pilot syndicate, reported dir.bg.
There is no deadline for the end of the strike, stated Jorg Handverg, spokesperson of the Cockpit pilot syndicate. He pointed out that the purpose of the pilots is to receive an offer by the German carrier and then the strike will end.
