The rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Nikos Papaioannou, testified on Friday in the context of the preliminary investigation carried out by Thessaloniki police into allegations by former students that they were sexually harassed by professors.

Fifteen arrested in drug sweep in downtown Thessaloniki
Fifteen people have been arrested in a drug sweep in downtown Thessaloniki in the last 24 hours, police in the northern port city said on Thursday.
The operation was conducted by the departments of security and emergency response, and covered the city center and the area around Aghiou Georgiou Square, focusing in particular on the vicinity of Aristotle University.

Major operation under way to bolster Thessaloniki security ahead of TIF
Some 5,000 additional officers of the Greek Police (ELAS), helicopters and boats belonging to the coast guard, and agents from America's Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation are forming the biggest ever security operation to protect the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), which opens at the northern port city on Saturday.
Five injured in migrant van crash
At least five people were injured, two of them seriously, on Friday when a van carrying 24 undocumented migrants overturned on the Egnatia highway in northern Greece.
The vehicle, which had Greek license plates, flipped over while on the Kipoi-Alexandroupolis section of the motorway.
The injured were transferred by ambulance to the University Hospital in Alexandroupoli.

Beer Festival | Thessaloniki | To September 2
Hundreds of different beers, food from around the world and workshops, including for on cocktails with beer, make up this year's Thessaloniki Beer Festival, running through Sunday, September 2. There will also be music and other fun at the event, which takes place in the courtyard of the Helexpo fairgrounds from 12 noon to 12 midnight.
