Macedonian Bulgarians

The political forces in the Bulgarian parliament condemned yet another instance of violence against Bulgarian citizens in North Macedonia and united around the position that the country currently has no place in the European Union.

According to Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, the Republic of North Macedonia is not ready to start negotiations for EU membership:

Bulgarian police officers detained 43 foreign citizens and two Bulgarians today. The Bulgarians were using a truck to transport the migrants.

During the subsequent inspection, 43 men were found in the cargo compartment - foreign citizens, without identity documents, according to their words - from Afghanistan. Six of them were transported to a hospital for examination.

The chairman and secretary of the "Ivan Mihailov" Bulgarian cultural center in Bitola, closed by the authorities in North Macedonia, will receive Bulgarian citizenship. President Rumen Radev will present Bulgarian passports to Lyubcho Georgievski and Blagoi Shatorov at a ceremony in the "Coat of Arms" Hall of "Dondukov" 2 street.

"Apparently, it will take time for North Macedonia to stand among democratic states. The leadership of North Macedonia must convince its citizens that it is building a democratic state in which there are no shootings and burning of Bulgarian clubs, in which Bulgarians are not subjected to systematic harassment, physical violence and staged trials."

The Head of State, Rumen Radev, expressed concern to the Commissioner for Neighborhood Affairs and EU Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, about the lack of progress on the issue of changing the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia and the inclusion of Bulgarians as a constituent part of the nation-building peoples.

The Bulgarian business will hire staff from India. One of the positions they will occupy is that of bartenders due to the decreasing interest of Bulgarians in the profession and the sector. At the same time, however, the restaurant business complains that hiring staff from third countries (non-EU) does not fully satisfy their requirements.

On the National Telelvision, European MP Andrey Kovachev from EPP/GERB stated that his non-admission to the territory of North Macedonia together with the chairman of the "Bulgarian Memory" foundation Milen Vrabevski and three other Bulgarians, shows that the allegations about the existence of blacklists with European citizens are true.
