Unknown perpetrators in North Macedonia have removed or smashed plaques added to several statues and monuments in Skopje - which explained that they depict historical figures "belonging to the ancient Hellenic history and civilisation and to world cultural and historic heritage".

The action occurred just one day after the authorities put them up.

As Macedonia's likely new Culture Minister announces a complete halt to the quasi-baroque revamp of the capital known as Skopje 2014, architects have said they hope some of the historic buildings given new facades will be restored to their original state.

BIRN's new app lists all the edifices that are included in the BIRN's official database of buildings, new facades, sculptures, monuments, fountains and other structures which are components of Skopje's publicly funded makeover.

The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, NUNS, announced a protest for Monday under the slogan "Female journalists do not kneel/PM keep the promise", urging Vucic to fire Gasic immediately.
