'Magic Alex,' known for working with The Beatles, dies in Athens
Alexis Mardas, the businessman and producer known from his work with legendary British pop band The Beatles, died in his apartment in the central Athens district of Kolonaki on Friday night.
He was 74.
"Magic Alex" as he was reportedly nicknamed by John Lennon, had suffered from health problems in recent years.
He is survived by a 23-year-old daughter.
Office of ex-minister targeted by vandals
The office of former deputy foreign minister Dimitris Mardas at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was targeted on Wednesday by unknown assailants who threw paint and leaflets at his door.
According to police, the culprits also left an ax stuck in the door.

Govt seeks to speed up investment licensing process
Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas told Athina 9.84 FM radio station on Tuesday that the government would speed up the procedure for investments licensing.
“Taking into account that the licensing of investments may take 1 to 4 years, we plan to reduce it to six months. This would be a breakthrough,” he said.

Alternate Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas was present at the emergency meeting called by the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) following a government decree for public bodies to transfer funds to the Bank of Greece (BoG). Mardas explained that the government hopes in this way to cover a "gap" in its finances worth 552 mln euros.
