Eurostat: 75% of the Bulgarians Travel Mostly with Car

Partly because Europeans tend to favour domestic tourism, private or rented vehicles were by far the main means of transport, used for nearly two-thirds (65%) of all trips, according to the latest data of Eurostat. 

Cars were particularly predominant in Bulgaria (75%) but also in Slovenia (84%), Portugal (80%), the Czech Republic (79%), Spain (77%), Hungary and France (both 74%).

It’s a question that arises surprisingly often among travellers, especially those considering renting a car. Which countries drive on the right and which drive on the left? Approximately two-thirds of the global population drive on the right side of the street. All in all, 163 countries and territories have right-hand drive traffic while vehicles use the left-side in 76 countries.

Greek PM calls for greater 'solidarity' in Europe

Greece's leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has called for greater "cohesion and solidarity" in Europe.

Tsipras was speaking ahead of a meeting with his Malta counterpart, Joseph Muscat, in Athens.

Malta currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.

Migration was expected to be at the center of talks between the two men.

Joksimovic: We expect good dynamics of accession talks

VALLETTA - European Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said in Valletta Tuesday she expected the dynamics of Serbia's EU accession talks to remain good in 2017.

Joksimovic is in the Maltese capital for an informal meeting of ministers and state secretaries in charge of European affairs.

Hijacked Libyan plane lands in Malta with 118 people aboard: Media

An airliner on an internal flight in Libya was hijacked and diverted to Malta where it landed on Dec. 23, Maltese media reported. 

The Airbus A320 was flying inside Libya for state-owned airline Afriqiyah Airways with 118 people aboard, the reports said. The two hijackers had threatened to blow the plane up, outlets including the Times of Malta reported.
