INSP: First death with Delta variant of novel coronavirus, recorded in Romania

The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reported on Thursday that the first death in a COVID-19 patient infected with the Indian Delta strain of the novel coronavirus was registered in Romania. According to data published by the INSP, as of June 20, 44 cases of infections with the Indian Delta variant, considered more contagious and virulent, have been confirmed.

Cumulative COVID-19 rate continues to dip in Bucharest City; zero new cases in four counties

Bucharest City and all of Romania's counties stay in the COVID-19 green area scenario in terms of the 14-day COVID-19 cumulative rate, according to data released on Monday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force. As of today there were 673,271 cases of novel coronavirus infection confirmed in Romania, of which 600,710 were declared cured.

The areas with the most newly confirmed cases of infection with SARS-CoV-2 compared to the last report are Bucharest - 1,124 and the counties of Cluj - 354, Timis - 272, Ilfov - 198 and Galati - 195, according to data transmitted on Tuesday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).

Former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea was convicted on Monday by the Bucharest Tribunal to three years imprisonment for the crime of influence peddling, in a case in which he stood accused by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) of intervening to appoint the daughter of a local social-democrat councilor in Buzau to an important public position.

Voter turnout in Sunday's presidential election as of 17:00hrs was 37.93pct nationwide, according to BEC spokesman Mircea Preotescu. The turnout in the urban area was 3,979,928, while in the countryside it was 2,931,156, he added. Higher turnout rates were reported in the counties of Ilfov (47.59pct), Cluj (45.27pct), Brasov (42.89pct), Sibiu (42.64pct) and Arges (41.96pct).

Voter turnout in Sunday's presidential election as of 15:00hrs was 29.21pct nationwide, according to BEC spokesman Mircea Preotescu. The turnout in the urban area was 29.99pct, while in the countryside it was 28.16pct, he added. Higher turnout rates were reported in the counties of Ilfov (36.44pct), Cluj (34.80pct) and Brasov (34pct).
