Calls grow for reduction on speed limits

In view of the death of six people in seven road accidents over 24 hours from Thursday through to Friday, activists are calling for stiffer penalties and reduction of speed limits.

SOS Traffic Crimes, set up by relatives of traffic victims, has been pushing for a change in the legal framework, as currently road accidents are legally designated a misdemeanor or manslaughter. 

Policeman charged with manslaughter after running over woman

A police officer in the northeastern prefecture of Xanthi has been charged with manslaughter through negligence after confessing to running over a 19-year-old woman who later died of head injuries.

The woman was run over by a police car last week in the village of Palaio Zygo in Xanthi and died in hospital on Tuesday.

All defendants found guilty in Kampanos murder case

A mixed jury court in Thessaloniki on Thursday unanimously found all 12 defendants in a trial over the killing of 19-year-old Alkis Kampanos in the northern port city in February last year guilty of murder.

The jury found seven of the 12 youths guilty of manslaughter with possible intent - lowered from an initial charge of premeditated murder - and five guilty of complicity.

Relatives of two people who died in Tempe testify before Larissa prosecutor

Family members of two people who died in the rail collision in Tempe testified before the investigating Larissa prosecutor on Monday.

Earlier, the stationmaster who relieved the 59-year-old who has been charged with negligent manslaughter for his role in the disaster also testified on the causes of the accident.
