Here's how the French presidential election is going to work. This Sunday's vote will pick the leading two candidates, who will then have another two weeks to campaign for the run-off vote. But the leading four candidates are now bunched together so closely in the polls that any two of them could make it through to the second round. Including a couple of quite worrisome people.

More than half of police officers in France have said they are voting for far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in Sunday’s election because of her strong anti-terror stance.

According to the IFOP poll, 51 per cent of the Gendarmerie are planning to back Le Pen in the nail-biting election.

Centrist Emmanuel Macron clung on to his status as favorite to win France's presidential election in a four-way race that is too close to call, as the camp of far-right challenger Marine Le Pen ramped up its eurosceptic rhetoric in a row with Brussels, Reuters reported.

Five days before the first round of France’s presidential election, two men have been arrested on suspicion of planning an imminent attack.

The suspects, aged 23 and 29, were detained in Marseille by elite police and domestic intelligence agents after a search that had lasted several days.

Both men are French citizens said to have been radicalised in prison.

A woman tried to protest whilst Ms Le Pen was speaking on stage to the party faithful during a rally by the far-right party ahead of Sunday’s first round of presidential voting.
However, the woman  was dragged off the stage by bodyguards.

One-third of french voters - 34% - have not decided who to vote for weeks before the presidential election. This shows poll of the sociological service Odoxa, commissioned by the state radio "France Info". This is a record indicator in the history of modern France.

Far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has touched a raw nerve in France by denying the French state's responsibility for a mass arrest of Jews in Paris during World War Two.

French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen told a political rally on Sunday that the euro currency which she wants France to ditch was like a knife in the ribs of the French people.

The leader of the eurosceptic National Front (FN) also told the rally in the city of Bordeaux that the forthcoming election for president could herald a “change in civilization”.

The candidate for president of France Marine Le Pen has stated that the European Union will die and that globalists will be defeated.

At an election meeting in Lille, she accused her rivals in the elections - Emmanuel Macron and François Fillon of betrayal because of their political platforms in support of the EU and market economy.

Centrist Emmanuel Macron solidified his status as frontrunner in France's presidential election on March 20 in a televised debate during which he clashed on immigration and Europe with his main rival, far-right leader Marine Le Pen.
