Hard discount retailer Şok freezes prices on 1,000 items

Şok, one of Türkiye's largest hard discount retailers, will freeze prices on 1,000 items, including staple products such as rice, flour, vegetable oil, sugar and tear, until the end of January.

If other supermarkets follow suit, such a move is likely to have a positive impact on the inflation outlook, according to a consumers' association.

Winter sales to start next week

Winter sales will begin on Monday, January 9 and will run until February 28, the Association of Retail Enterprises (SELPE) has announced. 

It also said that on the first Sunday of the winter sales, on January 15, commercial stores will have the option of operating from 11 a.m. to 8.p.m.

The Business Climate in Bulgaria is Deteriorating, Retail is Suffering the Most

The economic attitudes of the companies in the country are deteriorating for the sixth consecutive month. The general indicator for the business climate in November decreased by 2.2 points compared to October and reached 13.6 points according to NSI surveys. Estimates of the business environment are declining most dramatically in retail trade - 8.4 points down from last month.

Turkey's retail sales volume jumps 16% in September

Turkey's retail sales volume, a marker of growing consumer spending, surged 16% in September compared to the same month last year, the country's statistical authority said on Nov. 12. 

Non-food sales- excluding automotive fuel- jumped 24.2%, while automotive sales climbed 7.4% year-on-year in September, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said.

NSI Poll: Business Climate in Bulgaria Shows Slight Improvement

A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute has found that managers saw the business climate in Bulgaria in April largely unchanged compared with March.

The monthly polls earlier this year had seen slight improvements in the business climate in Bulgaria, after the indicator plunged in the first half of 2020 against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic.
