Tonin discusses cooperation with Czech counterpart
Prague – Defence Minister Matej Tonin, who is concluding a two-day visit to the Czech Republic on Saturday, meet his Czech counterpart Lubomir Metnar on the sidelines of NATO Days on Friday to discuss cooperation in international operations and bilateral cooperation in defence, including in mountain warfare.

Tonin says no stable government possible without NSi
Žužemberk – The coalition New Slovenia (NSi) held its annual informal gathering in Žužemberk on Sunday, with its president Matej Tonin saying that the key achievements of the government were the key achievements of the NSi ministers. He noted that it was not possible to build a stable government without cooperation in the centre and without the NSi.
Tonin receives Portuguese counterpart Cravinho
Ljubljana – Defence Minister Matej Tonin received in Ljubljana on Friday his Portuguese counterpart Joao Gomes Cravinho to talk about enhancing cooperation in defence and military matters and in other fields, assessing the bilateral defence and military relations as exceptionally good.

Tonin says EU has learnt its lessons in Afghanistan
Brdo pri Kranju – The creation of a European rapid reaction force will be among the topics discussed at Thursday’s informal meeting of defence ministers in Brdo pri Kranju. Slovenian Defence Minister Matej Tonin said the recent events in Afghanistan have been a lesson for the EU and called for a change of the mechanism of deployment.

Maribor – A debate on future development of Slovenia and the EU as part of the Youth Strategic Forum in Maribor on Saturday heard Defence Minister and coalition New Slovenia (NSi) president Matej Tonin noting that it was right that young people were interested in the future, as it depended on them.
Slovenian army to test, train on Pipistrel aircraft
Ajdovščina – Slovenian military pilots are to train on and test aircraft produced by the light aircraft maker Pipistrel under an agreement signed by the Defence Ministry and the Ajdovščina-based company. A special partnership has also been agreed on that includes efforts to obtain EU and NATO funds for development projects.
New basic training concept for military service
Ljubljana – Slovenia has a new concept of basic training for the Slovenian Armed Forces, designed as a single entry point for those interested in either voluntary or professional service. The wish is to attract new recruits by offering perks such as basic pay. Everyone under 30 is eligible for voluntary service.
