Rare Mughal era eyeglasses up for sale

A pair of rare diamond and emerald spectacles from an unknown Indian princely treasury will be sold at an auction in London later this month.

The lenses were placed in the Mughal-era frames around 1890, according to auction house Sotheby's.

The spectacles will be offered at auction for $2 million - $3.4 million each, the auction house said.

Mucilage in Marmara Sea continues to pose threat, study shows

A field study conducted to examine the marine mucilage, which invaded the Marmara Sea a few months ago, has revealed that though the sea's surface is now clean thanks to the ongoing efforts, the threat is not over yet.

Newly-found fossils shed light on Turkey’s continental history

Tree fossils recently discovered in eastern Turkey have provided insights into the country's climatic history, a member of Istanbul University's Faculty of Forestry said on Aug. 18.

Professor Ünal Akkemik told the state-run Anadolu Agency that fossils dating back 160 to 170 million years were found in the eastern province of Erzurum's Narman district.

Fight against mucilage a long-running struggle, says expert

Mustafa Sarı, a professor from the Science Board - established to coordinate efforts to fight against mucilage that has invaded the Turkish waters, has said that long-term solutions are needed to rescue the Maramara Sea from sea snot.

"Since we cannot change the conditions in nature what we have to do is very simple: We have to stop waste from being disposed into the sea," Sarı said.
