The restart of the Super League with the new-look playoffs, after soccer's three-month freeze, saw Olympiakos all but clinching the title with a 1-0 win at champion PAOK on Sunday.

Olympiakos defeated Arsenal 2-1 in the last minute of extra time in London, against all odds, and qualified to the last 16 of the Europa League in a historic night not only for the Piraeus club but also for Greek soccer in general.

Tough nut Olympiakos came back from 2-0 down to snatch a 2-2 draw from Tottenham on its opening night in the Champions League in Piraeus on Wednesday.

The Reds were pushed all the way by last season's finalist, but stood the pressure and held the result they had secured from early in the second half.

Olympiakos had to wait 50 minutes on Tuesday to break the deadlock with Viktoria Plzen, but then cruised through to the third qualifying round of the Champions League as it won 4-0 at home after the goalless draw away a week earlier.

Olympiakos captain and Greece's midfield linchpin Costas Fortounis has suffered a serious knee injury that rules him out of action for an estimated six months. He will be operated next weekend.

The influential midfielder suffered a rupture on his cruciate ligament and is going to undergo an operation on July 20. He is expected to return to action for Olympiakos after Christmas.
