Commemoration of Ljubelj liberation calls for peace and end to evil

Ljubelj – A ceremony marking the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Ljubelj concentration camp noted the importance of recalling horrible events in the past to prevent new horrors of war. Speakers at Saturday’s ceremony urged efforts to prevent the spread of evil and called for peace in light of the war in Ukraine.

Sculptures linking Slovenia and Austria in tribute to WWII prisoners

Ljubelj – A sculpture by Japanese artist Seiji Kimoto has been unveiled at the Slovenian side of the Ljubelj Pass tunnel in memory of the prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp who built the tunnel during World War II in an exact match to the one on the Austrian side.

"During the bombing, we did not [feel] comfortable in the wagons, but we all felt somehow happy because we knew that the destruction of some factory in Germany meant it was one day closer to the end of the war," a Croatian Czech called Franjo Zada said in the memoirs he wrote after World War II, recalling the events of mid-1944 when Allies bombed Munich.
