Bulgaria's national ombudsperson, Maya Manolova, and Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Krassimir Zhivkov on 14th of November met with residents of General Toshevo municipality who protest against gas extraction in Dobrudzha region (North-Eastern Bulgaria).

Ombudsman Maya Manolova, supported by a number of well-known names, including the big actor and director Kamen Donev, will send a petition to the European Parliament against the double standard of food in the EU, reported BGNES.

Ombudsman Maya Manolova organizes a public discussion on the differences in food quality in the countries of Western and Eastern Europe. She will also ask the question if  the Bulgarian consumers are protected, reported bTV.

Dozens of workers gathered outside the National Assembly for a protest against employer misdemeanour.

The rally was organized by the Autonomous Workers' Trade Union.

It is outrageous to work without payment, your child to starve or to have no money for textbooks. Since the beginning of this year there have been 435 complaints. Of these, over 30 are collective, "Ombudsman Maya Manolova said in Nova's Hello Bulgaria program.

''There are at least three abandoned children daily in Bulgaria'', Ombudsman Maya Manolova said in the show "This morning" on bTV.

In her words, the cases of throwing a child in a garden or in a garbage can only be the tip of the iceberg. In fact, half of the abandoned children are abandoned in the foster home, the Ombudsman said.

Speaking in Parliament, Ombudsman Maya Manolova said the fight against the unuquity of monopolies in Bulgaria was heavy and uneven, reported BNR. 

In a report on her activities during the year, the Ombudsman pointed out that there was little to boast when it came to the battle against the iniquity of monopolies.

Tomorrow, April 20 at 10:30 Bulgarian time, Ombudsman Maya Manolova and Plamen Dimitrov, President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB), will introduce at the National Assembly registry a package of legislative amendments which to stop the so-called "modern slavery" - non-payment of salaries, insurance, benefits, outstanding social commitments, and etc.

Bulgarian Ombudsman Maya Manolova approached the European Commissioner on Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vera Jourova, and sought assistance from her European colleague Emily O'Reilly to stop the discrimination and double standards for Bulgarian consumers, the press center of the Republic of Bulgaria's Ombudsman announced on Tuesday.

Last year's legislation which allowed for donated foods nearing expiry date to be exempted from any value-added tax (VAT) does not work as the government has not done its job, Bulgaria's National Ombudsman Maya Manolova has said.
