Rare Mughal era eyeglasses up for sale

A pair of rare diamond and emerald spectacles from an unknown Indian princely treasury will be sold at an auction in London later this month.

The lenses were placed in the Mughal-era frames around 1890, according to auction house Sotheby's.

The spectacles will be offered at auction for $2 million - $3.4 million each, the auction house said.

Rare first printing of US Constitution to be auctioned

An extremely rare official first-edition printed copy of the U.S. Constitution will be put up for bid by Sotheby's in mid-November, the auction house has said.

Announcing the upcoming sale of the document on the 234th anniversary of its signing by delegates to the Constitutional Convention, Sotheby's estimated its value at $15 million to $20 million.

Sotheby's has won the rights to sell the highly sought-after Macklowe art collection, valued at more than $600 million, the auction house announced Sept. 9.

The trove, which includes works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Mark Rothko, was the subject of a bitter legal dispute following the high-profile divorce of New York real estate developer Harry Macklowe and his ex-wife Linda.

A rare 16th-century portrait of Suleiman the Magnificent, the longest-reigning Ottoman sultan, has been donated to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by an anonymous buyer after it fetched a hefty 350,000 British pounds ($481,000) of sale price in an auction in London last month.

Part of the ceiling at London's Piccadilly Theatre collapsed during a performance, world agencies have reported.

Several people were injured and the theatre was evacuated.

There were 1,100 people inside the building during the incident. A part of the plaster fell on the ceiling at a time when Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" starring US actor Wendell Pierce.

Islamic artworks go under the hammer at Sotheby’s

Some of the best examples of artwork from the Islamic world, including a portrait of the great Ottoman Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, will go under the hammer at Britain's famous auction house Sotheby's on May 1.
The collection titled "Arts of the Islamic World" has 311 pieces that will find new owners in the auction to be held on May 1.
