New measures announced for Istanbul public transport

Authorities in Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city, have announced a set of measures after scenes showing people largely ignoring rules on public transport vehicles.

The country this week scrapped the rule that public transport vehicles should operate at 50 percent capacity as Turkey started to relax most of the anti-virus curbs.

Istanbul rolls out 'panic buttons' on public buses

The Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Company (?ETT), the city's public bus authority, introduced buses with new "panic buttons" on Feb. 26.

Hasan Celikdelen, head of the IETT's IT department, said when a person presses one of the new panic buttons, it generates a signal received by the company's control center.        

Five injured in metrobus accident in Istanbul

Five passengers were injured when two metrobuses collided near Istanbul's Merter neighborhood, while the accident blocked the city's metrobus route in the Avc?lar direction. 

On the morning of Jan. 18 a metrobus hit another from behind amid a heavy snow storm in Istanbul. 

Five passengers were injured in the accident and transferred to a nearby hospital.
