After an explosion, a fire broke out in the rocket and explosive factory of the Machinery and Chemical Industry in Ankara, and 5 workers died under the rubble on June 10, according to Turkish Defense Ministry. 

Smoke rose after the sound of the explosion at the MKE rocket and explosives factory in Ankara's Elmadağ district.

Turkey's multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) successfully hit targets in a firing test, the head of Turkey's Defense Industries Authority said on May 12.

The new 107mm system is ready for use by the Turkish Armed Forces, İsmail Demir said in a tweet.

Turkey's new production line, established with the locally-produced machines, came into service for a state-run shell factory on May 8. 

As part of a new project of Mechanical and Chemical Industry Company (MKEK), the new production line is manufacturing cartridges at the Gazi Cartridge Factory in capital Ankara in accordance with NATO standards.

Turkey produced an indigenous mechanical breathing device, named Sahra, or desert, the national defense minister said on April 17.

A mass production agreement for Turkey's first locally designed and produced assault rifle has been signed with a local company, the Defense Industries Undersecretariat has said. 

"Some 10,000 MPT-76 will be manufactured by Sarsılmaz Silah Sanayi under the assault rifle supply project," the undersecretariat said in a written statement.

A Turkish state weapons factory head was sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison on Dec. 29 for trying to sell Turkish weapons designs to a U.S. company, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The state-run Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) has moved to protect its intellectual property rights for its Fırtına howitzers, a weapon currently being used by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

The head of the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation's (MKE) weapons factory, Mustafa Tanr?verdi, was arrested on April 7 in Ankara after allegedly trying to sell weapon designs to a U.S. company.
