Parliamentarians in Montenegro from the main opposition Democratic Front, DF, have demanded the resignation of the management of the public broadcaster, RTCG, 

They made the call after RTCG broadcasted a documentary about the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the country, Metropolitan Amfilohije. 

Montenegro's Court of Appeal said on Thursday that it will respond within a month to Jovan Martinovic's appeal against his 18-month prison sentence, which has been described by media campaign groups as a blow to journalistic freedom in the country.

Media associations in Montengero have criticised the country's Police Directorate for demanding a list of journalists covering organised crime.

Police say they need the information to assess whether reporters are under threat.

The European Parliament is to debate freedom of the media in Montenegro on Thursday amid concern that the media community is highly divided and that attacks on journalists remain unsolved.

Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee will debate a draft resolution on Montenegro, which also notes that journalists are poorly paid and that jobs are insecure.
