Media in Romania

Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on the occasion of the National Culture Day, that the main mission in a European Romania is to promote "all forms of cultural expression."

Former Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana at the US Embassy headquarters on Wednesday met US Department of State Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, with whom he talked about the political evolution in Romania, but also about 'the chance for Romania to play an extremely important role both from a strategic and from an economic stand in the region.'

The Prime Minister's High Representative for European Affairs and the Partnership with the US, Ana Birchall, on Wednesday hailed the US Department of State Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland's visit to Romania, which, according to her, 'shows USA's attachment to Romania and the Strategic Partnership with our country.'

British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond on Wednesday saluted Romania's commitment to increase the Defence budget, so it can reach 2 per cent of the GDP, saying that protecting the country represented the foremost duty of any government.

Labour mobility has positive economic effects on the GDP of the country they work in and contributes to the economic growth of the state in question and of the EU economy in general, Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu said in a joint press conference with his British counterpart Philip Hammond.

The members of the Romanian Senate's Committee for culture and media have talked on Tuesday with the Director General of the AGERPRES National News Agency, Alexandru Giboi about the necessity of altering the legislation regarding the copyright so that the journalist stuff released by AGERPRES be protected.

The Association of Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) condemns the cold-blooded attack against the freedom of expression and against innocent civilians that took place on Wednesday in Paris.

The budget deficit estimate for 2014 is 1.98 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP); the final data will be released on January 25, Finance Minister Darius Valcov announced after a visit of Prime Minister Victor Ponta at the Public Finances Ministry on Thursday.
