Health Ministry calls for implementation of mosquito control measures

The Health Ministry has sent a circular to regional authorities across the country asking them to initiate their annual mosquito control programs, calling for particular attention to be paid in areas where there have been outbreaks of malaria and West Nile virus in previous years.

Measles cases still increasing

The measles outbreak in Greece is showing no signs of abating as the number of cases has kept increasing in recent months, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (KEELPNO).

In its latest monthly report, the center notes that 1,976 cases were recorded in the period stretching from early last May, when the outbreak started, until March 4.

Record Number of Deaths Caused by the Flu in Croatia

At least 35 deaths from influenza have been reported in Croatia, but experts believe that their number is significantly higher, reports bgnes. 

Up to now, most people who died of influenza - 27 people - were registered in 2010 during the swine flu pandemic. Dr. Vladimir Drazjevovich, a virologist at the National Center for Influenza, noted that this year the flu is different.

Colombia Navy Seizes 5 Tons of Cocaine Near Border with Panama

The Colombian navy said Tuesday it has seized a massive shipment of cocaine in the northwest of Colombia.

According to the navy, 5.2 metric tons of the illicit drugs were found in a shipment of bananas in a port in the Uraba region after a tip from the Police.

The bananas were meant to be shipped to Europe.
