AIDS deaths fall by third in decade: UN
Global AIDS-related deaths and new HIV infections have fallen by over a third in a decade, the United Nations said Wednesday as it voiced hope of wiping out the killer disease.
The global effort to beat the pandemic has made huge strides, though the battle is far from over with 35 million people still living with HIV worldwide, said Michel Sidibe, head of UNAIDS.

Probe into surgery delay that killed patient
An Athens prosecutor on Tuesday ordered an inquiry to determine whether a state hospital doctor, who allegedly postponed crucial heart surgery for a patient in a bid to secure a bribe, should be held responsible for the death of the 67-year-old.

Minister asks patients tapped for bribes to come forward
Health Minister Makis Voridis on Thursday called on citizens being asked for bribes by doctors at state hospitals to come forward following the suspension of a 59-year-old heart surgeon at one of Athenss biggest public hospitals, Evangelismos, for allegedly demanding a bribe from a patient for critical surgery.
Doctors suspected of 1.4 mln euros in tax evasion
After investigating some 50 doctors who had issued a suspiciously high number of medicine prescriptions in 2012, the financial police said Thursday they had uncovered tax evasion worth 1.4 million euros.
According to officers, in most cases the doctors bank deposits exceed their declared income.

A flock of 85 sheep in Gortynia, in the Peloponnese, has been placed in quarantine after the animals were found to be infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known by its acronym BSE or as made cow disease, even though it can also be transmitted to sheep and goats.
