National gymnast İbrahim Çolak named athlete of year

Artistic gymnast İbrahim Çolak was chosen as the 2021 Athlete of the Year at the 67th Gillette Milliyet Athlete of the Year awards on Sept. 29.

Mehmet Baykan, general manager of Sports Services, presented the award in a ceremony at Istanbul's Volkswagen Arena organized by the Turkish Milliyet daily newspaper and shaving products company Gillette.

Bronze for Tijana Bogdanović!

In the category up to 49 kilograms, Tijana reached the medal through repechage.
Bogdanovic defeated the Japanese Miyu Yamada and brought Serbia the second medal from the Olympics, after the silver won by the Damir Mikec.
After the victory over the Japanese competitor Miyu Yamada 20: 6, Bogdanovi did not hide her emotions and enthusiasm on the battlefield immediately.

Slovenia’s flatwater kayakers Ponomarenko Janić and Osterman European champions

Poznan – Slovenia’s female pair Špela Ponomarenko Janić and Anja Osterman won Sunday’s 200-metre race at the Canoe Sprint European Championships in Poznan, Poland. While their excellent K2 performances at top competitions are continuing, this is their first gold from European or world championships.

Büyükakçay wins first game at Australian Open qualifications

Çağla Büyükakçay, one of the three Turkish players competing in the 2021 Australian Open's qualifying stage, won her first game on Jan. 10 to advance to the second round.

Büyükakçay, world number 178, beat 15-year-old Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva 6,4-6,4 in Dubai.

She will next play Ana Konjuh of Croatia, who won 6-2,-67-6-4 against Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany.

3 Turks to compete in 2021 Australian Open

Three Turkish tennis players will compete in the 2021 Australian Open's qualifying stage with drawings for the first round in the men's and women's category held on Jan. 9.

Çağla Büyükakçay and Pemra Özgen will be on court to play in the first round in the women's competition.

Cem İlkel will appear in the men's qualifiers.

The qualifying phase will be held Jan. 10-13.
