28 refugees detected on Island of Ros
Greek coast guard authorities detained a 19-year-old foreign human trafficker who reportedly transported 28 refugees to the island of Ros in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The 29 refugees (including the trafficker) were spotted on the island by a FRONTEX vessel which transported them to the island of Kastellorizo.

Frontex: 1,690 migrants reach Greece in March
A total of 1,690 migrants arrived on Greece's eastern Aegean islands in March, up by almost a half from February but only 6 percent of the figure from a year ago, Frontex said Wednesday.
Syrians, Iraqis and Pakistanis accounted for a majority of the detections on the Eastern Mediterranean route, the EU's border guard agency said.

One migrant found dead as 1,350 rescued in Mediterranean
The Italian Coast Guard and humanitarian ships rescued 1,350 migrants in 12 separate operations in the Mediterranean on April 6 and one person was found dead.
Nearly 1,000 migrants rescued off Libya: Italy
Some 970 migrants were rescued off the coast of Libya on March 2, the Italian Coast Guard said, as the numbers attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe continue to rise.
Even before the March 2 arrivals, more than 13,400 people had arrived on Italy's shores so far this year - an increase of 50 to 70 percent compared with 2016 and 2015.

Greek Cyprus records best ever tourism income in 2016
Greek Cyprus saw its best ever receipts from tourism in 2016, data showed on March 1, in a record year for the Mediterranean holiday island considered a regional safe haven.
Tourism income last year reached 2.36 billion euros ($2.48 billion) compared to 2.11 billion in 2015, an 11.9 percent increase, according to official data.
Greek, Cypriot and Israeli travel agencies plan cooperation
A three-party agreement between Greece, Cyprus and Israel was signed by travel agency association representatives during the IMTM 2017 travel show in Tel Aviv last week, for the creation of a new entity to contribute toward the growth of tourism in the three countries and the broader Eastern Mediterranean region.
Mediterranean seal in İzmir's Karaburun
A Mediterranean monk seal that came to the coast of Karaburun in İzmir drew great interest among locals. Security measures were taken to protect the seal, which rested in a boat until late on Jan 5 before leaving.
