At least one person has died and two others are missing after a boat carrying refugees sank on Oct. 27 in the Aegean Sea, off the Turkish province of ?zmir.

The Turkish Coast Guard on Oct. 28 said 42 people were rescued from the sea soon after the incident off the resort town of Çe?me. It also said a search and rescue operation was underway to find two missing refugees. 

Greece has seen a record 48,000 migrants and refugees land on its shores in the space of just five days, the International Organization for Migration said on Oct. 23.

Greece will hold its ‘National Greece Day’ at Expo Milano 2015 on Wednesday, using various promotional activities to showcase the country’s products and the benefits of Greek food and the Mediterranean diet.

The UN refugee agency said Oct.1 that it was expecting 700,000 migrants and refugees to reach Europe via the Mediterranean sea this year and projected at least the same amount again in 2016.

Since the beginning of the year 522,134 migrants and refugees have arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.

2,892 people lost their lives on this route in their an attempt to reach the continent.

The European Union decided to authorize the use of military force against human traffickers in the Mediterranean Sea.

Turkish Coast Guard teams have rescued more than 150 migrants on the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean as they were apparently trying to reach Europe, which is attempting to cope with refugees arriving en masse.

At least 28 people drowned in another migrant tragedy off Greece on Sunday, as Athens angrily defended its handling of the mounting refugee crisis in Europe. 

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has harshly slammed the West over ?insensitivity? amid the growing refugee crisis, while announcing the ?joint fight against global terrorism? as a key issue to be discussed during the G-20 Summit in Turkey mid-November.

A Mediterranean monk seal appeared on the surface of the water and posed for the cameras off the Cennet Beach in Turkey?s touristic district of Bodrum.

The endangered species appeared in the sea off Bodrum?s Göltürkbükü neighborhood before disappearing back into the Aegean.
