Supreme Court takes action against animal cruelty
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the head of the Athens prosecutor's office to investigate the case of a dog that appears to have been beaten to death with a metal rod in West Attica.
The case in Megara is the latest in a recent spate of particularly horrendous abuse cases against companion and working animals, a trend that has landed Greece on blacklists among European nations.

Boy in coma after being beaten by mother’s partner
A four-year-old boy from Megara, western Attica, who was severely beaten by his mother's partner was intubated and in a coma at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital.
According to the first reports, the child has multiple fractures and an epidural hematoma.

Municipalities sign MoU with wildlife NGO

Five injured in shooting incident in west Attica
Five people were injured in an exchange of fire that took place inside a Roma camp in Megara, west Attica, on Tuesday morning, police sources said.
According to the same information, the cause of the shooting was a car accident on Monday, in which members of two families were involved.

Prison employee accused of murder detained until trial
An examining magistrate on Thursday decided to detain until his trial a 50-year-old prison employee from Megara, western Attica, accused of killing his wife's 48-year-old brother and attempting to kill the latter's spouse last Thursday.
Three officers from aliens bureau accused of bribery, breach of duty
Three policemen serving in Attica's aliens bureau were arrested by officers of the internal affairs division for allegedly blackmailing a businessman in order to reduce a fine, Kathimerini understands.
The three suspects, one of which is the head of the aliens bureau, have been charged with bribery and breach of duty, according to sources.
Man, 64, arrested over large fire in Megara
Police in Attica are questioning a 64-year-old man in connection with a fire that broke out in Megara, western Attica, on Sunday.
According to sources, the man had been using an outdoor grill in windy weather, prompting a fire in an adjacent field.
The 64-year-old is to face charges of arson through negligence.

Fire breaks out in West Attica town of Megara
The Greek capital's fire department on Friday was battling a wildfire in Mavrovouni, a rural outskirt of the West Attica town of Megara.
Thirty firefighters in 16 trucks, two ground units, two water-dumping airplanes and a helicopter have been dispatched to contain the blaze, which was burning through hard-to-access woodland, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency reported.

Dourou charged in connection with Mandra floods in 2017
An Athens prosecutor has brought charges against Attica Regional Governor Rena Dourou and another nine officials in connection with the flash floods in Mandra, western Attica, in November 2017 which resulted in the deaths of 25 people and the destruction of hundreds of properties.
