BELGRADE - The Accreditation Commission (KAPK) has determined that the quality of the PhD programme at the Megatrend private university in Belgrade is not satisfactory and issued a deadline of one month for the university to correct all the irregularities.

The Serbian website Pescanik on Wednesday published a study alleging that over 30 per cent of the thesis of the Mayor of Belgrade was lifted from other people's work.

Some 33 per cent of Sinisa Mali's university thesis was copied from other people’s work, it said, and the content of numerous pages was copied almost completely, it added.

BELGRADE - Over 1,800 scientists and university staff from Serbia and abroad backed the motion to protect academic honour in Serbia which has been submitted to the Ministry of Education, National Council for Higher Education, National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, Conference of the Universities of Serbia and the Commission for scientific titles.

BELGRADE - Ten Faculties of the state-owned University of Belgrade (UB), gathered in the Academic Council of Social and Humanistic Sciences, will request setting up of a commission to examine the doctoral thesis of Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, Council member and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Prof. Milos Arsenijevic told Tanjug on Tuesday.

Endre Pap, the president of the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance, told BIRN on Monday that Megatrend University would face rigorous checks after the scandal which saw rector Mica Jovanovic resign.

Jovanovic said on Sunday that the scandal that initially erupted after Serbia’s Interior Minister was accused of plagiarizing parts of his PhD thesis, then escalated to force the rector to resign, was "fabricated in order to bring down the state leadership".

This is according to Education Minister Srđan Verbić, who spoke on Monday.
