Saudi Arabian football teams will be required to play away matches in Qatar during the Asian Champions League despite the kingdom’s travel ban on its Gulf neighbor, Asia’s football governing body said yesterday.

The president of Qatar's National Human Rights Committee hopes that, as a key member of the European Union and the European Parliament, Greece can play an important role in alerting the international community to the need to end the diplomatic crisis between his country and Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt.

A Saudi-led military coalition announced $1.5 billion in new humanitarian aid for Yemen on Jan. 22, after the United Nations made what it called a record appeal for assistance for the war-ravaged country.

Qatar's foreign ministry released a statement on Monday saying the claim was false. 

Qatar said on Jan. 10 that a Saudi-led boycott, now in its eighth month, amounted to “economic warfare” as Doha plans to seek compensation for those hit by the sanctions.

The United Arab Emirates on Dec. 5 announced it has formed a new economic and partnership group with Saudi Arabia, separate from the Gulf Cooperation Council - a move that could undermine the council amid a diplomatic crisis with member state Qatar.
