European Funds Contribute to 4% Increase of Bulgaria's GDP for 2015

Romania is doing worse in terms of utilising European funds than Bulgaria, stated Vittoria Alliata di Villafranca who is heading a team at General Directorate Regional Policy of the European Commission and is responsible for Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia.

 

Global Times: Thousands of Greek Businesses Flee to Bulgaria

More than 15,000 Greeks have registered new companies in Bulgaria's tax offices in the first quarter of 2016, the Global Times, a Chinese business edition, has said.

It quotes data from the Greek Embassy in Sofia and a report published by Greek daily Vima ("Tribune").

On average, a dozen accounts opened in Bulgaria on a daily basis, the Chinese Times says, citing Vima.

Three in four young Greeks living at home, OECD says

Three out of four Greeks aged between 15 and 24 were still living at home in 2014, according to a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) made public this month.

The annual report, called "Society at a Glance," found that southern European countries hardest hit by the debt crisis had the highest rates of young people remaining with their parents.

Worst August in years for Greek tourism, BoG data shows

According to data released by the Bank of Greece (BoG), revenue from the tourism industry had dropped by 9.85 billion Euros (7.1%) over the past 8-moth period, compared to the same period in 2015, which is a record low from the start of the year in January till the end of the summer season in August.

Bulgaria Posts EU's Biggest Growth in Tourist Overnights for 2016

Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova has said the country has registered a 18% year-on-year increase in tourist overnight stays for the first six months of 2016.

This is the best result within the EU, Angelkova has told Focus Radio, citing Eurostat data.

There were more than 8 million overnights between January and June, according to the minister.

EU commissioner gets entangled in "Greater Albania" dispute

The European Commission (EC) has announced that it "welcomes the efforts of Greece and Albania to clarify all open issues."

At the same time, the EC stressed it would not declare itself on "whether there is a dispute over a part of the territory of Greece along the border with Albania," the Beta agency has reported.
