Court releases ex-HDP MP Gergerlioğlu

A Turkish court on July 7 ruled in favor of releasing the former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) lawmaker Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu from jail, after a top court ruling that his rights were violated.

Gergerlioğlu was imprisoned on April 2 after a High Court approved a 2.5-year jail term over allegations of "supporting terrorism" on Feb. 19 and he was unseated from parliament.

CHP leader criticizes delay in releasing former HDP MP

Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on July 6 criticized the delay in releasing Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) former lawmaker Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu despite the decision of a top court to release the lawmaker.

The CHP asks justice for all, Kılıçdaroğlu said while addressing his party's lawmakers at the parliament.

MHP leader criticizes Constitutional Court’s decision on ex-HDP MP

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli has criticized a Constitutional Court decision ruling that the rights of former Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu have been violated.

"How is terrorist propaganda considered a violation of rights?" the MHP leader said on July 6, addressing his lawmakers in parliament.

Top court sends back indictment on HDP on procedural grounds

The Constitutional Court on March 31 returned the indictment, which aimed to ban the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) due to the lack of procedure in the file.

The first review will be made after the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completes the deficiencies and submits the indictment to the Constitutional Court.

Top court to make first examination on HDP closure case on March 31

The General Assembly of the Constitutional Court will make the first examination of the case filed demanding the Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) closure on March 31.

On the same day, the high court will also examine the application made by former HDP MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu requesting the annulment of the decision to remove his parliamentary seat.
