Tsipras to meet Merkel in Berlin Friday

A recent decision by the Greek government to give pensioners a one-off Christmas bonus despite misgivings from creditors is expected to be at the center of talks between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and German Chancellor Angela Merkel over a working lunch in Berlin on Friday.

A joint press conference has been scheduled for 12.30 p.m.

Europe needs a Turkey strategy

The European Parliament has recommended to the European Commission a temporary freeze of accession negotiations with Turkey. The resolution was approved overwhelmingly with 479 "yes" votes. Some say that the resolution is all bark and no bite, and that the EP is just trying to be important. I don't think so.

Germany's Merkel To Be Nominated for Fourth Mandate

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will become a candidate for a fourth mandate, reported the German media, citing sources close to Merkel.

It is expected that Merkel will make the official announcement at 19:00 hrs.

Merkel will be nominated for both chancellor and chairwoman of the Christian Democratic Union at the congress of the party which will be held in December.

British PM: Brexit Is Going on Schedule

British Prime Minister Theresa May has assured that the preparation of Brexit is going on schedule and that the legal process will begin by the end of March 2017.

"The preparation is ongoing and we are ready to start the procedure under Art.50 of the EU Treaty by the end of March 2017," stated Theresa May during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
