Messinia leads hospitality growth in February
Hospitality enterprises' turnover jumped 27%, or by 19.2 million euros in February, totaling €90.46 million, from €71.21 million in the same month last year, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Monday.

Mitsotakis attends signing of road agreement in Messinia
An agreement to build a road linking Kalamata, Rizomilos, Pylos and Methoni in Messinia, along the southwestern section of the Peloponnese was signed at Kalamata airport on Friday, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and by former premier Antonis Samaras, under whose government the project began.
Mitsotakis to tour three Peloponnesian regions on Friday
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to visit the regions of Argolida, Arcadia, and Messinia in the Peloponnese on Friday, as part of his pre-election engagements.
In the morning, Mitsotakis will attend the signing of a contract for the Argos-Nafplio road connection via the A7 motorway. Following that, he will visit Mycenae and Nafplio.
Neda Gorge listed for environmental protection
The Gorge of Neda, which separates the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia, in the southwestern Peloponnese, will be declared a protected landscape and natural formation, the Environment Ministry announced on Wednesday.

D-Marin undertakes the marina at Pylos
Premium marina group D-Marin has announced it is undertaking the management and operation of the marina at Pylos in the southwestern Peloponnese for the next 40 years.
This will constitute a multi-million-euro investment for the broader area of Messinia in cooperation with TEMES SA, which owns and operates the nearby Costa Navarino complex.

Strong quake strikes central Mediterranean Sea
Scientists say a strong earthquake struck in the central Mediterranean Sea region early on Thursday.
The Athens Institute of Geodynamics gave a preliminary magnitude of 5.9, while the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said it measured 6.2.

Bonds of friendship formed at Pylos archaeological dig
Maria Zacharopoulou spent hours as a young girl on her balcony watching American and Greek archaeologists hard at work in the building next to her family home in the village of Hora in Messinia, in the southwestern Peloponnese. She was awed and intrigued by the discoveries they were making in local archaeological digs and dreamed of one day becoming a part of their team.
Police investigating shooting of German couple in Kyparissia
Greek police were Thursday investigating the shooting of a German man and his wife in a summer house in Kyparissia, a town in northwestern Messinia, Peloponnese.
According to reports, the man was shot and killed in the yard, while his spouse was seriously injured.
She remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday.
