Olympic gold medalist recurve archer Mete Gazoz has won the bronze medal in the 2022 World Cup Final held in Mexico's Tlaxcala.

In the finals, the last of this year's open-air archery activities, eight athletes who were qualified for direct participation or thanks to points they earned during the year competed.

"Mete has become an idol who will make archery to be loved by coming generations," he said.

Several countries in the Balkans improved their Olympic scores or achieved even more notable successes at the Tokyo Games, with athletes responsible for the medals taking the centre stage in national celebrations.

Turkey's newest Olympic gold medalist Mete Gazoz returned to Istanbul to a hero's welcome at the airport, sending a message to girls and boys that "anything is possible."

By winning the individual men's title at the Tokyo Games last weekend, the 22-year-old champion archer claimed first gold for Turkey.

Facing world no. 7 Italian archer Mauro Nespoli in the final, Gazoz, 22, won the match 6-4 and bagged gold.

Turkish archer Mete Gazoz bagged the gold medal in the European Archery Championships in Antalya. He also won a quota for the Tokyo Olympic games.

Gazoz defeated his French opponent Jean-Charles Valladont 6-0 in the final of the tournament in which 279 athletes from 40 countries participated.

Recurve Archer Mete Gazoz is confident he will be an Olympic champion in 2020 in Japan and in 2024. What makes him so confident is his points, his constant training, but also his ability to manage stress during the finals. From state investments in facilities to trainers' approach, Turkey is in a much better situation in archery compared to other countries, Gazoz told the Daily News.
