Persistent snow and freezing conditions from a Siberian cold snap caused a handful of deaths across a swathe of Europe from Britain to the Balkans.

"Because of the prevailing weather conditions, Genève Aéroport is currently closed to air traffic until further notice," the airport said on its website, quoted by Reuters. 

Today it will be mostly sunny. In the afternoon, there will be again clouds from west and in the evening it will snow in some areas in the western regions. The wind will ease, it will be moderate to strong from west-southwest.

 The snow is expected to stop later in the day, in the northeastern regions last, clouds will start clearing from southwest. There will be moderate to strong wind from the north-northwest. It will remain cold, with maximum temperatures between minus 7°C and minus 2°C, slightly higher in the far southwest and southeastern areas, in Sofia - about minus 3°C.

Rome woke to its first snowfall in six years yesterday as chilling winds from Siberia swept across Europe, bringing freezing temperatures that have claimed at least four lives, closed schools and disrupted travel.

Frigid weather will persist in the coming days in Bucharest, with snow expected to become abundant starting Monday evening, while the minimum temperatures will reach 18 degrees Celsius below zero, according to a special forecast for Bucharest released by the National Meteorology Administration (ANM), for the period February 26 - March 2, 2018.

The movement of trains in the country is normal, despite the complicated winter conditions. So far there are no sections in which there will be difficulties in passing the train compositions, announced BDZ.

Heavy snowfall overnight, particularly in northern and central Greece, caused serious traffic problems and led to the closure of dozens of schools on Monday.
