The tall light brown hats worn by whirling dervishes are as intriguing as the elliptical dance performed in honor of the Sufi poet and mystic Rumi.

Rumi was a man weighing between 60 and 63 kilos, with a height of 160 and 165 centimeters, the head of the Rumi Museum in the Central Anatolian province of Konya has said.
Naci Bakırcı highlighted that he has come to this conclusion after examining Rumi's 19 clothes in the museum's inventory and some 18th-century drawings.

Tanoura puts kaleidoscopic spin on dervish tradition
In a 500-year-old stone theatre in the Egyptian capital, two young dervishes spin ceaselessly. Slowly, then all at once, they are consumed in a flurry of vivid fabrics.
Born into a lineage of whirling dervishes, Mohamed Adel, 20, takes great pride in the uniquely Egyptian interpretation of the centuries-old ritual known colloquially as "tanoura," or skirt in Arabic.

The Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival will be held between Oct. 29 and Nov. 14. At a recent meeting held at Galataport, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy has said that the festival will be held twice a year in the spring and the fall seasons.
Stone remembers father with Rumi’s line
Famous U.S. actress Sharon Stone has shared a poem by the 13th-century Sufi mystic poet Mevlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi on her Instagram account.
The poems of the great Persian poet, popularly known as Rumi, are themed on religious and mystical concepts with a multitude of allusions to the Quran.

Turkey sends medical aid to Chad
A Turkish plane carrying medical supplies departed from the capital Ankara for Chad on May 26 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The boxes containing the aid carried a message for the people of Chad.
"After hopelessness, there is so much hope, and after darkness, there is the much brighter sun," it said, quoting the words of 13th-century Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi.

Mevlana Rumi museum drew 3.4 mln visitors in 2019
A museum in central Turkey dedicated to the 13th-century Muslim mystic poet Mevlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi hosted a record of nearly 3.5 million visitors in 2019.
The Mevlana Museum, located in Konya, drew a total of 3,464,000 local and foreign tourists last year, becoming the country's number two museum destination after the Hagia Sophia Museum in Istanbul.
