Japan says working to isolate, analyse new virus variant
Japan is working to isolate and analyze a new variant of the coronavirus detected in four people who arrived from Brazil, a health ministry official said on Jan. 12.
Japan announced the detection of the new variant on Sunday, but officials have been at pains to emphasize there is no evidence yet that it is any more transmissible or dangerous than others.
PM says vaccination of general population to start on Jan. 20
The vaccination of the general population against the coronavirus will begin on January 20, starting with those aged 85 or above, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during a meeting he chaired at the headquarters of the Civil Protection Secretariat on Tuesday evening.
The online platform for the electronic booking of inoculation appointments will open on January 11.

Kisic Tepavcevic: That never happens with infectious diseases
She emphasized that the epidemiological situation is much more favorable now, with the trend of a drop in the number of the infected.
"It was expected in public that the number of infected people would decrease linearly. That never happens with infectious diseases," said Kisic, who is also the deputy director of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut".

One person died today, while 249 people have died since the beginning of the corona virus epidemic in Serbia.
There are currently 15 people on respirators.
11.348 patients recovered, while death rate stands at 2.11 percent.
The total number of infected is 11.803 out of 272.502 people tested since the outbreak of the epidemic.

Wuhan doctor at whistleblower’s hospital dies from coronavirus
A Wuhan doctor who worked with coronavirus whistleblower Li Wenliang died of the virus last week, state media reported on June 2, becoming China's first COVID-19 fatality in weeks.
Hu Weifeng, a urologist at Wuhan Central Hospital, died on May 29 after being treated for COVID-19 and allied issues for more than four months, state broadcaster CCTV said.
