Bulgaria's Main Party Leaders Vote in Local Elections, Referendum

The leaders of the main parliamentary represented parties have voted in the local elections and the referendum, which are taking place in Bulgaria on Sunday.

Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the deputy chairperson of the largest ruling party GERB, voted in favour of sustaining the visible results in Sofia and Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Socialists Expel Lawmaker over Mayoral Bid

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has expelled Georgi Kadiev, a lawmaker known for his often dissenting views, over his decision to run for Mayor of Sofia in October's local elections.

At an extraordinary voting session, 37 BSP lawmakers unanimously approved the step, the Bulgarian National Television quotes party spokesman Atanas Merdzhanov as saying.

Georgi Kadiev, a lawmaker from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), has voiced his intentions to run for mayor of Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

In Parliament, Kadiev has made no secret of his plans to either be an independent candidate or, if possible to unite left-wing, green and centrist parties around his bid.

'Socialist Beer' Adds Appeal to Traditional Buzludzha Fest

A "Socialist Beer" is being featured at the traditional Mount Buzludzha fest held by Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) members, activists, followers and sympathizers this Sunday.

The year 2014 is the 124th anniversary since the BSP was set up. Private national bTV station reports that the beer, brewed specially for the socialist party, is available for just BGN 1.20 (EUR 0.60).

Bulgaria's Two Largest Parties Fail to Reach Agreement on Changes to Constitution

The two largest parties represented in the Bulgarian parliament - GERB and BSP failed to reach an agreement on the tabled constitutional amendments.

This became clear after a brief meeting between Bulgarian Prime Minister and leader of the main ruling party (GERB) Boyko Borisov and leader of the largest opposition party (BSP) Mihail Mikov on Wednesday.
