Turkish soldier killed in northwestern Syria
A Turkish soldier was killed in an attack by forces of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Idlib province, northwestern Syria, the Defense Ministry said on March 2.
The ministry announced in a tweet that Turkish soldiers who had been sent as reinforcements to Idlib to prevent conflicts had come under artillery fire from regime forces.

Turkey neutralizes 2,557 regime elements in Syria’s Idlib

Funerals held for soldiers killed in Idlib
Funerals were held across Turkey for the soldiers killed during a deadly attack in Idlib, a de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria, just across Turkey's southern border.
The funerals which started on Feb. 29 in many Turkish provinces also continued on March 1 in Samsun, Yozgat and Kütahya provinces, as well as in the capital city of Ankara.

Turkey launches military operation against Syrian regime: Defense Minister
The Turkish military launched Operation Spring Shield in Idlib in response to the Assad regime attack on Feb. 27, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on March 1.
The defense minister noted that the only goal of the operation is self-defense against the Assad regime soldiers and units that attack Turkish troops in the area.

Turkey's defense chief and high-level military officials inspected the country's troops on the Syrian border on March. 1.
Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaşar Güler and commanders of Turkish Land and Air Forces monitored latest developments along the border, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene.
Turkish army chief holds phone talk with US general
Turkey's army chief Yaşar Güler on Feb. 28 held a phone conversation with his U.S. counterpart Gen. Mark Milley, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said.
The two discussed recent developments, the TSK said in a tweet, without giving further details.

Erdoğan, Putin agree to meet soon after deadly Idlib attack
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged a phone call on February 28 and agreed to meet in-person very soon and to discuss new measures to de-escalate tension in the Idlib province of Syria as the Syrian regime killed 33 Turkish troops in an attack.
