Romania will buy two second-hand British minesweepers and two French submarines as part of the Romanian army's re-equipment programmes, local media reported.

The minelayer Vice Admiral Constantin Balescu (PM-274), with a detachment of combat divers on board, is departing on Thursday, from the military port of Constanta, to take part in the EUNAVFOR MED Irini operation, in the Mediterranean Sea, between October 1 - December 31.

The Romanian Navy organises on Saturday, August 14, an Open Doors Day event in the military ports of Constanta, Mangalia, Braila and Tulcea, in compliance with the COVID-19 restrictions in place, according to a press statement released on Tuesday by the Navy.

The Romanian Naval Forces are launching on Tuesday, two social responsibility projects, whose objectives are to protect the biodiversity of the marine environment and make future military marines generations more responsible in combating climate change and water heating of the Planetary Ocean.

NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was due in Romania on Thursday on his first official visit, to discuss consolidation of the Alliance's capacities on its eastern flank and open a NATO Force Integration Unit, NFIU.

Stoltenberg was due to meet President Klaus Iohannis, acting Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea and the Foreign and Defence ministers.
