Turkey has started the tests of the first national air-air missile and the serial production of first national sea missile, the country's vice president said on Nov. 27. 

Slow-moving talks with the United States for the procurement of Patriot air defense systems have not matured, a senior Turkish official has said, while noting the country's progress in ongoing cooperation with France and Italy's Eurosam on SAMP/T systems. 

Turkey and Russia are mulling the joint development of aviation and air defense systems, Dmitry Shugayev, head of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, was quoted as saying Tuesday.

Russia will have no access to the S-400s after all the technical procedures are completed, the head of the Turkish Defense Industry has said, describing this as a "red line" concerning ongoing cooperation with the Russians on the air defense systems.

The U.S. is pulling two Patriot missile batteries and some fighter aircraft out of Saudi Arabia, an American official said on May 7, amid tensions between the kingdom and the Trump administration over oil production.

North Korea on April 14 fired several suspected cruise missiles towards the sea, the South's military said.    

The "multiple projectiles" fired from Munchon in the east of the country were believed to be "short-range cruise missiles," the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.    

The Middle East crisis has confirmed the Deveselu-based missile defence system is "well integrated with NATO and functions perfectly," Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu said on Wednesday. He participated in the joint meeting of the committees for foreign affairs and defence of the Senate, alongside Minister of Defence Nicolae Ciuca.

Despite the personal rapport often shared by their leaders, Turkey and the U.S. are currently at odds over a number of issues, but the U.S. interest in bases on Turkish soil endures, according to a foreign policy analyst.
