Zac Kostopoulos: the real estate agent in prison, the jeweler under house arrest – The decision of the Court of Appeal

The real estate agent found guilty in the Zach Kostopoulos death case was sent to prison today by the Court of Appeal. The court decided that he should serve his sentence (six years in prison) in jail while, in contrast, the jeweler (who was given a five-year sentence) was given home detention, as he has reached the age of 80.

Korkoneas sent back to jail

Former police officer Epaminondas Korkoneas was arrested and sent back to prison Saturday.

The arrest followed the Supreme Court's rejection of an appeals court decision that had reduced his life sentence for killing a 15-year-old while on duty to 13 years based on lack of prior criminal record.

It was the second time the high court had nullified the appeals court's verdict.

Cop who murdered 15-year-old faces new trial

Epaminondas Korkoneas, the cop who murdered 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos on December 6, 2008, setting off a near month of riots in Athens and several other Greek cities, will face yet another trial after the Supreme Court threw out an appeals court decision reducing his initial life sentence because of lack of criminal record up to that event.

Supreme Court moves to appeal Mati wildfire court decision

Supreme Court Prosecutor Georgia Adelini instructed the Prosecutor of the Athens Appeals Court to explore the possibility of appealing the court's decision on the Mati wildfire case.

On July 13, 2018, a wildfire in Mati, a village on the east coast of the Attica region, took 104 lives and injured many.
