Songs starting to disappear from TikTok

TikTok may look (or sound) a little different when you scroll through the app going forward.

Earlier this week, Universal Music Group, which represents big-name artists like Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny and Drake, said that it would no longer allow its music on TikTok following the Wednesday expiration of a licensing deal between the two companies.

Nepal Bans TikTok to Preserve Social Harmony

Nepal has banned the Chinese app TikTok because it considers its content harmful to social harmony, the BBC reported.

The decision comes days after the introduction of a new rule requiring companies that own social networks to open their liaison offices in the country.

TikTok has about a billion monthly users, but is banned in several countries, including India.

Instagram Testing New Feature: Disable Read Receipts in DMs

In a recent announcement, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Instagram is experimenting with a feature allowing users to disable read receipts in Direct Messages (DMs). Although no specific release date was mentioned, Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared a preview of the upcoming read receipts toggle during a broadcast.

Turks spend 4 hours a day on apps

Mobile users in Türkiye devote four hours a day to apps, according to the Regional Pulse Index Second Quarter report by data.ai.

Users in 13 regions, namely Indonesia, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Russia, Türkiye, the U.S. and the U.K., spend more than four hours per day on apps.

US senators call for close look at TikTok

Leaders of the US Senate Intelligence Committee have called for an investigation into whether Chinese officials are getting access to data about U.S. users of video-snippet sharing sensation TikTok.    

In a letter to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chairwoman Lina Khan, the senators urged her to scrutinize how well TikTok safeguards private data.
