21 bln minutes of phone calls made during Eid: Minister

The Eid al-Adha holiday not only saw an influx of people rushing to resort towns to beat the heat during the nine-day break away from the hustle and bustle of cities, but communication lines stayed busy as well, with over 21 billion minutes of phone calls made during the holiday, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

Customer to sue restaurant for lost iPhone after dock collapsed

A customer who fell into the sea and lost his iPhone as a restaurant's dock collapsed four months ago has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant for 28,500 Turkish liras to claim the cost of his phone.

The illegally built dock of the restaurant on Arnavutköy Street in Istanbul collapsed on the evening of Dec. 23, 2022, as 14 customers fell into the sea.

Communications sector revenues up 41 percent

The combined sales revenues of communications companies in Türkiye increased by 40.7 percent in 2022 compared with the previous year to reach 130 billion Turkish Liras, a report by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has shown.

In the final quarter alone sales revenues of those companies stood at 40 billion liras. 

‘Panic button’ app to help women facing domestic violence

A digital application for cellphones to support women facing violence at home, called "Panic Button," was introduced in Athens and Thessaloniki on March 23.

The free app is downloaded on a smartphone and activates the service by pressing on a button which sends a text message (sms) to the operational center of the police. The app contains the needed information to locate the user.

Police in Athens investigate series of muggings targetting youths

Police in Athens are investigating a series of attacks in which male youths were mugged and had their mobile phones stolen.

In the most recent incident, a 17-year-old was hospitalized after he was beaten and wounded with a knife near the Iraklio metro station, in the city's north, at 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Metro riders to get 5G services

The Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) has launched a pilot project to cover the stations and tunnels of the metro lines with up to 5G mobile signals.

The first phase of the project is set to last until March of this year and aims to find the best technical solution, which will then be applied to the entire network.
