Residents across Bulgaria have been cautioned to brace themselves as the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issued a yellow code warning for strong winds expected on April 2.

The Ministry of the Interior has announced a comprehensive testing exercise of the National Early Warning and Notification System. Set to commence today at 11:00, the exercise will see the activation of the siren system across various cities and regions of Bulgaria.

In response to the relentless surge in flu cases, Burgas, Sofia-region, Yambol, and Haskovo have decided to extend the suspension of on-site education for students. The regions are grappling with an unprecedented flu outbreak, leading to the implementation of stringent temporary anti-epidemic measures.

Burgas and Sofia-Region's Extended Measures

A noticeable uptick in influenza and acute respiratory diseases is sweeping Bulgaria, prompting significant measures in various regions of the country.

In the aftermath of heavy snowfall, a state of emergency persists across numerous Bulgarian municipalities, with the entire Razgrad district under this measure. While the road connecting Razgrad to Targovishte is now accessible to cars, it will only open to cargo vehicles later today. However, third-class roads in Razgrad and Shumen districts remain closed, hampering travel.

Bulgaria grapples with a state of emergency declared across numerous districts due to the relentless heavy snowfall, leading to severe weather conditions. As a result, over 280 schools in 13 districts have suspended classes for the day, impacting the education of countless students.

The Ministry of Interior has announced the commencement of tests for the BG-ALERT early warning system across several regions of Bulgaria. The initial phase, scheduled for Wednesday, will cover Veliko Turnovo, Razgrad, Ruse, and Silistra.

The heat will be unbearable yet again.

A yellow and orange heat code has been announced throughout Bulgaria. In Silistra, Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Yambol, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad and Haskovo, an orange code for dangerous weather is in effect, where up to 40 degrees Celsius are expected in some places.

122 are the newly registered cases of Covid-19 in Bulgaria for the last 24 hours, with 2,039 tests performed.

There are 279 hospitalized patients with coronavirus, of which 34 are in intensive care units.

A test of the National System for Early Warning and Notification of the Population will be carried out in several locations today (April 3), including Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Vratsa, Ruse, Kardzhali, Smolyan, Pazardzhik, as well as in the settlements included in the integrated local notification systems, including in the area around the Kozloduy NPP.
