World known cardio surgeon Prof. Alexander Chirkov passed away early this morning. He was the man who performed the first heart transplant in Bulgaria in 1986.

A student who killed his father in Varna was convicted. Vladislav A. was found guilty today by the Varna District Court of premeditated murder, the prosecutor's office announced.

He was a minor at the time of the crime, so he was sentenced to 6 months in prison, which was postponed for two years.

Tons of dead fish have covered a part of the shores of Lake Varna, according to a video posted on the Internet. The video was shot today on the southern shore of Varna Lake near the village of Konstantinovo.

Whether the dead fish has anything to do with faecal contamination remains to be seen because of the broken pipeline.

A powerful explosion shook a block of flats in the coastal city of Varna in the early hours on January 13, BNT reports.

According to preliminary information, a woman had been killed in the blast. A second victim was found inside the building. Five people were hospitalized. It is not yet clear what the cause of the expolsion is.
