Turkey to host Iranian foreign minister

Turkey will host Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on June 14-15 ahead of a planned Astana summit to be held via videoconference. Zarif will be in Istanbul on June 14-15, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"During the visit, all aspects of our bilateral relations will be discussed and views on regional and international issues will be exchanged," the ministry added.

Plane carrying Iran scientist jailed in US has taken off: Zarif

Iran's foreign minister said on June 2 that a plane had taken off from arch-foe the United States carrying scientist Sirous Asgari after his apparent release from a U.S. prison.

"Good news, a plane carrying Dr. Sirous Asgari has taken off from America. Congratulations to his wife and family," Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in a post on his Instagram account.

US will not lift sanctions to negotiate with Iran: Trump

The United States will not lift sanctions on Iran in order to negotiate, U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted late on Jan. 25, seemingly in response to a Der Spiegel interview with Iran's foreign minister.

"Iranian Foreign Minister says Iran wants to negotiate with The United States, but wants sanctions removed. No Thanks!" Trump tweeted in English on Jan. 25 and later in Farsi.
