"I have been talking with Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch, Porfirije, and we will soon agree on the date of signing the agreement. This issue must not be the subject of politicization in order to score political points," Krivokapic wrote on Twitter.

"There are public indications that the Montenegrin authorities supported Bosnian Serb forces, despite the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia's embargo on the Bosnian Serb authorities," Medojevic said.

The minister will be visiting Serbia almost a month after Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic donated a consignment of Russian Sputnik V COVID vaccines to Podgorica on February 17.

The new Montenegrin government has promised to bring change for thousands of mostly Serb residents who want to become citizens but cannot because the country's strict legislation means they would have to give up their original citizenship.

The President of Serbia, as he states, "by appropriating the Montenegrin history" wants to bridge the missing part of the history of Serbia.

Krivokapic also called again on Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic to visit Montenegro and show good will for cooperation.

The Montenegrin ruling coalition MPs adopted the changes to the Law on Religious freedom, while the opposition boycotted the session.

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall three decades ago, a host of eastern European states have passed laws designed to bar from public life those associated with rights violations under their former communist regimes, particularly members of the security apparatuses and their informants.

On Monday Radulovic said the government won't lift sanctions on Russia because Montenegro must respect European Union rules if it wants to join the Union.
