A 45-year-old woman has been arrested in northern Greece on people smuggling charges after police found 15 illegal migrants in her car on the Egnatia Highway near Thessaloniki.

Once again an institutional reform that was intended to remedy chronic dysfunctions and weaknesses of the justice system, the revamping of the criminal code, has become an arena of political clashes and criticism.

Even worse, a large segment of public opinion gets the impression that it serves certain vested interests and ulterior motives.

At least 2,649 undocumented migrants were held across Turkey over the past week,

Although the flow of undocumented migrants into the European Union dropped last year, Greece remained a key hub for the "secondary movement" of migrants along the so-called Balkan route to Central and Northern Europe, Europol's annual report on migrant smuggling has found. 

Police on Saturday intercepted 13 undocumented migrants on the Egnatia Highway in northern Greece following an inspection on a truck being driven by a 63-year-old man who was arrested on charges of attempted smuggling.

The truck was stopped in the early hours of the morning near the Derveni junction.
